What it is
Intercom hosts its MCP server at https://mcp.intercom.com/mcp for US workspaces and https://mcp.eu.intercom.com/mcp for EU workspaces, where requests are processed inside the EU. Australian-hosted workspaces are not supported yet, and the older SSE endpoints are deprecated in favour of Streamable HTTP.
You connect with OAuth (recommended) or an Intercom API token as a bearer header. There are 14 core tools: search and fetch, search_conversations, get_conversation, add_internal_note, search_contacts, get_contact, list_companies, get_company, and list, search, get, create and update tools for help articles. The server cannot send customer-facing replies.
Workspaces with Fin Operator get five more tools over OAuth only: send_operator_message, get_operator_response, get_proposal_details, apply_proposals and reject_proposals. Only send_operator_message uses Operator credits.

https://mcp.intercom.com/mcpOur review
Intercom drew the write boundary in the right place. An assistant can search every conversation, contact and company, add internal notes and draft or edit help articles, but it cannot reply to a customer. Notes are credited to the admin who authorised the connection, so every machine-written note in the inbox carries a real person's name, which is good for accountability and awkward if several agents share one login.
The documentation is better than most vendor MCP pages. It spells out the scopes each tool needs, the pagination rules (cursor-based, up to 150 results a page, default 5), and edge cases such as a note silently unsnoozing a conversation assigned to someone else. The search tool uses a small query language with operators like eq, gt and contains, which a model handles well once it has seen an example.
Region is the main operational trap. EU workspaces must use the EU URL, Claude's directory connector only serves US workspaces, and connecting to the wrong region fails with a vague "technical difficulties" message. Australian workspaces cannot connect at all, which is an odd gap given that Fin itself offers Australian hosting. Custom clients face a redirect-URI allowlist managed through Intercom Support, so an in-house agent on its own domain waits on a ticket.
The security model leans on the consent screen. Intercom notes that the app name shown there is not verified, so an admin who clicks Allow on an unexpected request hands a stranger read access to every customer conversation. Rate limits are the standard Intercom REST limits, 10,000 calls a minute per app, which a summarising agent paging through a quarter's conversations is unlikely to reach.
Where it earns its place
A support lead at a 25-agent SaaS helpdesk on Intercom
Find out why refund requests doubled last week
The assistant runs search_conversations over the date range, reads a sample with get_conversation and writes a summary with links into the inbox. It costs nothing beyond the Intercom plan and replaces an afternoon of manual tagging.
A documentation writer on a two-person knowledge team
Turn repeated ticket answers into help-centre articles
The agent searches closed conversations for a topic, then calls create_article, which saves a draft unless a state is set, so a person still publishes. The draft needs an author_id for a real admin.
A backend engineer on call for a B2B product
Get customer context before replying to an escalated bug
From Claude Code or Cursor, fetch the contact, their company and recent conversations, then leave an add_internal_note with the diagnosis. The note appears to teammates only and never reaches the customer.
Before you commit
- Setup
- Add the US or EU URL to a Streamable HTTP client and approve two OAuth screens; Intercom links setup guides for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, OpenAI, Cursor, Windsurf and VS Code. Older clients use npx mcp-remote.
- Integrations
- 14 core tools, of which add_internal_note, create_article and update_article write; five extra Fin Operator tools over OAuth. Dynamic client registration is supported against a redirect-URI allowlist.
- Data and privacy
- The token can read conversations, contacts, companies and articles, and write notes and articles. Conversation text is customer-written, so a malicious message can try to steer the assistant; the consent screen's app name is not verified by Intercom.
- Cost at scale
- The server is free; standard Intercom REST limits apply (10,000 calls a minute per app, 25,000 per workspace). Only send_operator_message draws Operator credits, whose price this page does not publish.
- Limits
- No Australian workspaces, no customer replies, no ticket notes; connections made before the write or Operator permissions existed fail until reconnected.
What's good
- No customer-facing writes: notes and help articles only
- US and EU endpoints, with EU requests processed in the EU
- Clear scopes, pagination and edge cases in the docs
- Fin Operator tools for teams already using Intercom's AI agent
What's not
- No support for Australian-hosted workspaces
- Claude's directory connector covers US workspaces only
- Custom redirect URIs need a Support ticket
- Notes always credited to the authorising admin
Best for
Support and product teams on Intercom who want assistants to research conversations, brief engineers and maintain help articles.
Alternatives
Intercom MCP Server: common questions
- Is Intercom MCP Server worth it?
- A careful server that lets an assistant read the whole support history but never speak to a customer, which is the right line for most teams. We rate it 4.0 out of 5.
- How much does Intercom MCP Server cost?
- No fee for the server; uses your existing Intercom workspace and plan. Fin Operator's send_operator_message tool uses Operator credits.
- What are the downsides of Intercom MCP Server?
- No support for Australian-hosted workspaces; claude's directory connector covers US workspaces only; custom redirect URIs need a Support ticket; notes always credited to the authorising admin.
- Who is Intercom MCP Server best for?
- Support and product teams on Intercom who want assistants to research conversations, brief engineers and maintain help articles.
- How much does Intercom MCP Server cost for a team or in production?
- The server is free; standard Intercom REST limits apply (10,000 calls a minute per app, 25,000 per workspace). Only send_operator_message draws Operator credits, whose price this page does not publish.
- Is Intercom MCP Server safe for company data?
- The token can read conversations, contacts, companies and articles, and write notes and articles. Conversation text is customer-written, so a malicious message can try to steer the assistant; the consent screen's app name is not verified by Intercom.
- What are the best Intercom MCP Server alternatives?
- The closest alternatives we have reviewed are Slack MCP Server and Zapier MCP.
