What it is
Zapier MCP turns Zapier's app integrations into MCP tools. Every client connects to the same endpoint, https://mcp.zapier.com/api/v1/connect, over Streamable HTTP (SSE is not supported), signing in with OAuth or a connection token. Each client connects to one of your Zapier MCP servers at a time, and it is listed in the official MCP Registry as com.zapier/mcp.
Each tool performs one action in a connected app, such as sending a Slack message or adding a Google Sheets row. In managed mode you pick a fixed set of actions; in agentic mode the assistant finds and enables the actions it needs during the chat. Zapier says it covers 9,000+ apps and 40,000+ actions and handles OAuth, credentials and rate limits for each.
The zapier/zapier-mcp repository holds plugins for Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI and others that add guided setup and skills; the server itself is closed source.

Zapier MCP's case is reach. Instead of finding and vetting a separate server for every SaaS tool a team uses, you connect one endpoint and pick actions from Zapier's catalogue. For the long tail of apps with no official MCP server, it is usually the only practical option.
The arithmetic deserves a minute before rollout. Each successful call costs two tasks, test calls included, and repeated actions bill separately: an agent that adds five spreadsheet rows has spent ten tasks. Professional at $19.99 a month on yearly billing includes 750 tasks, which is 375 tool calls. Listing tools and authenticating are free, and there is no per-session call limit, so the task allowance is the only brake. When it runs out, calls fail with a task-limit error unless pay-per-task billing is on.
Depth is the second trade-off. Tools are single actions that Zapier has built for each app, not the full API, so for Notion, Linear, Stripe or Slack the vendor's own server usually exposes more. Agentic mode is convenient but lets the toolset grow mid-conversation without review; managed mode keeps a fixed, auditable list.
On security, Zapier says MCP sits inside its SOC 2 Type II scope, data lives in AWS US-East-1 with no VPC or on-premises option, and every tool is Zapier-owned, which rules out tool poisoning from third-party definitions. It does not rule out prompt injection: the emails, tickets and documents those tools read come back as model input, and Zapier's security page offers no guidance on that. MCP is also on by default for every account, Enterprise included, and switching it off goes through an account manager, so many admins have already enabled it without deciding to.
Where it earns its place
An engineer wiring Claude Code into a 50-person company's internal tools
Create Jira tickets and post Slack summaries from an agent without writing integrations
Run a managed-mode server with exactly those two actions; each ticket plus summary costs four tasks. On Team at $69 a month yearly for 2,000 tasks, that is about 500 ticket-and-post pairs.
An executive assistant at a 15-person consultancy using Claude.ai
Draft calendar invites and log new contacts in the CRM from a chat
Thirty actions a working day is roughly 1,300 tasks a month, well past Professional's 750, so budget for a larger task tier. Zapier holds the OAuth for both apps, so no developer is involved.
An IT admin at a 300-person Zapier Enterprise customer
Govern assistant access to company apps
MCP is already on; ask the account manager to restrict it by workspace membership and set task quotas. SAML SSO extends to MCP, superadmins can read any user's tool-call history, and retention is configurable on Enterprise.
Before you commit
- Setup
- Add the endpoint to any Streamable HTTP client and sign in with OAuth, or install Zapier's plugin for Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or Gemini CLI; choose actions or switch on agentic mode. Clients without Streamable HTTP cannot connect.
- Integrations
- 9,000+ apps and 40,000+ actions, each exposed as one tool; managed or agentic server modes; tool bundles copy a tool list to others on any plan, while sharing a live server needs Team or Enterprise. App connections cannot be shared.
- Data and privacy
- Stored in AWS US-East-1 under SOC 2 Type II; Enterprise accounts are opted out of AI training by default; tool-call logs appear in a History tab and the audit log, and deleting a server deletes its logs.
- Cost at scale
- 100,000 tasks a month cost $489 on Professional with yearly billing, which buys 50,000 tool calls; above 2 million tasks Zapier requires a sales contract. The free plan's 100 tasks would cover 50 calls, though Zapier's MCP docs do not say whether MCP works on it.
- Limits
- No published rate limit beyond the task allowance; one server per client at a time; account-wide app and action restrictions apply, but they cannot be set for MCP alone.
What's good
- Thousands of apps from one connection
- Zapier handles OAuth and per-app rate limits
- Failed calls, tool listing and auth do not cost tasks
- Zapier-owned tools only; covered by SOC 2 Type II
What's not
- Two tasks per call, including tests
- Single-action tools, shallower than vendor servers
- US-East-1 only; no VPC or on-premises option
- On by default for every account; disabling needs an account manager
Best for
Teams that already pay for Zapier and want assistants to act in apps that lack their own MCP server.
Alternatives
Zapier MCP: common questions
- Is Zapier MCP worth it?
- For apps without their own MCP server it is often the only sensible route, and the two-task toll per call is the price of not wiring each one yourself. We rate it 4.2 out of 5.
- How much does Zapier MCP cost?
- No separate MCP fee: each successful tool call uses two tasks from your Zapier plan, failed calls are free. Sharing a server needs Team or Enterprise.
- What are the downsides of Zapier MCP?
- Two tasks per call, including tests; single-action tools, shallower than vendor servers; uS-East-1 only; no VPC or on-premises option; on by default for every account; disabling needs an account manager.
- Who is Zapier MCP best for?
- Teams that already pay for Zapier and want assistants to act in apps that lack their own MCP server.
- How much does Zapier MCP cost for a team or in production?
- 100,000 tasks a month cost $489 on Professional with yearly billing, which buys 50,000 tool calls; above 2 million tasks Zapier requires a sales contract. The free plan's 100 tasks would cover 50 calls, though Zapier's MCP docs do not say whether MCP works on it.
- Is Zapier MCP safe for company data?
- Stored in AWS US-East-1 under SOC 2 Type II; Enterprise accounts are opted out of AI training by default; tool-call logs appear in a History tab and the audit log, and deleting a server deletes its logs.
- What are the best Zapier MCP alternatives?
- The closest alternatives we have reviewed are Google Workspace MCP servers, Slack MCP Server and Notion MCP.
