Our rating

4.7/5

Fin is the AI support agent others have to answer to, because it publishes a price and runs on the helpdesk you already own.

What it is

Fin is Intercom's AI agent for customer conversations. It answers questions from your help content and policies, and through Procedures it can carry out multi-step tasks such as refunds, payments and account updates. It works over chat, email, voice, SMS, WhatsApp, Slack and social channels, and now covers sales and ecommerce as well as support. It runs on Intercom's own Apex models.

Fin is built into Intercom's helpdesk but also works on top of Salesforce, Zendesk, HubSpot, Freshdesk and others without Intercom seats. Intercom says it resolves 76% of conversations on average across customers, and that more than 12,000 brands use it. Fin Operator, included with the Pro add-on, is an agent that helps run support operations, such as tuning Fin and keeping knowledge up to date.

Fin costs $0.99 per outcome on every plan, charged at most once per conversation. Intercom helpdesk seats list at $29 (Essential, currently $19 for new customers), $85 (Advanced) or $132 (Expert) per seat a month. On another helpdesk there are no seat fees, but a minimum of 50 outcomes a month applies. There is a 14-day free trial with no card.

Our review

Fin's advantage over Sierra and Decagon is less its resolution rate than its transparency. Intercom publishes the price, $0.99 per outcome and charged at most once per conversation, and Fin runs in front of Salesforce, HubSpot, Zendesk and other helpdesks with no seat fees and a minimum of 50 outcomes a month. Its enterprise rivals quote only through sales, so Fin is the one a support director can model in a spreadsheet before the first call.

The definition of an outcome is where the bill is decided. A resolution counts when the customer asks for nothing more after Fin's last answer, and a Procedure that ends in a planned handoff is billed even though a person finishes the job. A customer who gives up and closes the window can look identical to a satisfied one, so teams should sample resolved conversations every week rather than trust the dashboard. Sales qualifications cost ten times as much, at $9.99 each.

Intercom's performance claims are large: a 76% average resolution rate across more than 12,000 customers and about 2 million resolutions a week. They are vendor figures, not audited ones. Fin runs on Intercom's own Apex models, and its trust page says it also switches between OpenAI, Anthropic and Google models to maintain performance, so part of its quality rests on suppliers Intercom does not control.

One default needs a procurement team's attention. According to Intercom's trust page, Fin uses anonymised customer data for model fine-tuning unless you opt out, after which the data is deleted within 30 days; third-party model providers are contractually barred from training on it. Intercom lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, 27701, 27018 and 42001, HIPAA and the AIUC-1 agent standard, with hosting in the US, EU or Australia. On Intercom's own helpdesk, SSO and HIPAA support sit on the $132 Expert plan.

At volume the arithmetic is simple and unforgiving. Ten thousand billed outcomes a month cost $9,900, and the pricing page lists no volume discounts. The bill therefore rises with every conversation Fin closes, the reverse of a fixed annual contract: the better Fin performs, the larger the invoice.

Where it earns its place

  • A 40-agent support team on Salesforce Service Cloud

Deflect order-status and password questions without migrating helpdesks

Fin sits in front of Salesforce with no Intercom seats; 6,000 billed outcomes a month come to $5,940. Weekly sampling of resolved chats catches customers who simply gave up, which the billing counts the same way.

  • An online retailer with a five-person customer service team

Handle refunds and address changes overnight

Procedures let Fin run multi-step tasks against order and payment systems; a refund completed without handoff is one $0.99 outcome. The 14-day trial with unlimited outcomes is long enough to test one Procedure end to end on live traffic.

  • The head of support at a 150-person SaaS company

Get an AI agent through a security review that covers customer personal data

SOC 2 Type II and ISO reports are self-serve at trust.intercom.com; the review should record the opt-out from fine-tuning on anonymised data, which is on by default, and choose EU or Australian hosting if residency matters.

  • A 10-rep B2B sales team at a software company

Qualify inbound demo requests before a rep calls

Fin qualifies leads against your criteria and routes them at $9.99 per qualification, while disqualifications and self-serve routing cost $0.99, so the price per useful lead depends on how strict the criteria are.

Setup
Intercom says Fin can be live on any helpdesk in under an hour: connect help-centre content, set guidance and test in preview; Procedures that take actions need more build time.
Integrations
Native in Intercom; works with Salesforce, Zendesk, HubSpot, Freshdesk, Front, Gorgias, Zoho, Dixa and Sprinklr; channels include chat, email, voice, SMS, WhatsApp, Slack and social.
Data and privacy
Anonymised customer data is used for fine-tuning by default (opt out and it is deleted within 30 days); third-party models run under zero retention; SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001/27701/27018/42001, HIPAA, AIUC-1; US, EU or Australia hosting.
Cost at scale
10,000 outcomes a month cost $9,900; an Intercom-native team adding 20 Advanced seats at $85 reaches about $11,600 a month, before Copilot at $29 to $35 per agent.
Limits
No published volume discounts; Fin Voice is priced through sales; billing follows outcomes, not customer satisfaction, so quality has to be audited separately.
