What it is
ThoughtSpot is a business intelligence (BI) platform built around search. Instead of waiting for an analyst to build a dashboard, business users type a question like "sales by region last quarter" and get a chart. It runs on top of your cloud data warehouse, such as Snowflake, BigQuery or Databricks, and has no storage of its own.
Its AI agent is called Spotter. Spotter 3 became generally available in June 2026 (release 26.6.0.cl) after early access from February. It plans and runs multi-step analysis across structured and unstructured data and can be reached from other AI agents through ThoughtSpot's MCP server, sold as an add-on. In March 2026 ThoughtSpot launched Spotter for Industries, with versions tuned for life sciences, financial services, and retail and consumer goods. Task-specific agents build dashboards (SpotterViz), semantic models (SpotterModel, generally available since August 2026) and embedded analytics code (SpotterCode).
ThoughtSpot also sells an Embedded edition for putting analytics inside your own product, with a free Developer tier for up to 10 users. It owns Mode, the SQL and Python notebook tool, which it bought in 2023.
Our review
ThoughtSpot is a mature way to let business users question a governed warehouse, and its real price is set by the contract, not the pricing page. Answers come from a semantic model your data team defines, so "revenue" means the finance team's revenue rather than whatever a chatbot infers from column names. Row- and column-level security applies in the query engine, so Spotter answers respect the same permissions as dashboards.
The published seat prices hide two things. Essentials at $25 a user has no Spotter at all, and Pro at $50 a user caps Spotter at 25 queries per user a month on user pricing; heavier use needs usage pricing from $0.10 per credit or an Unlimited Spotter add-on. Vendr's data from 33 purchases puts the median annual contract at $100,000, from about $38,600 to $221,700. The Snowflake, BigQuery or Databricks bill comes on top, and it rises as more people ask questions.
The agent itself has moved quickly. Spotter 3 left early access in June 2026, and the release history adds SpotterModel for building semantic models and starter prompts in August. ThoughtSpot says it does not meter or charge for LLM tokens; if you bring your own LLM provider, that provider bills you directly.
The security paperwork is in order: SOC 1, SOC 2 and SOC 3 reports, ISO 27001 and CSA STAR Level 1 according to its trust page, with SSO over SAML and OIDC. The public trust page does not say how Spotter prompts are retained, so ask for the AI overview from the security portal before regulated data goes through it. Next to Hex, which suits analysts writing SQL and Python, ThoughtSpot is built for people who will never open a notebook, and most of its cost is the modelling work needed to serve them.
Where it earns its place
A retail chain with 300 store and category managers on Snowflake
Let managers check sales and stock by store without queuing for analysts
Analysts model sales once and managers ask Spotter in plain English. Three hundred Pro seats list at $180,000 a year, and 25 queries a month each runs out fast in a busy week, so usage pricing at $0.10 per credit is worth modelling. Every question also runs on Snowflake credits.
A product engineer at a B2B SaaS company
Put dashboards and a question box inside the customer-facing app
The Embedded Developer tier is free for up to 10 users and 25M rows, enough for a proof of concept with the API and SDK. Multi-tenancy, embedded SSO and unlimited users need the Embedded Enterprise contract, priced through sales.
A data lead at a 2,000-person insurer

SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 reports come from the security portal; VPN and VPC connectivity to the warehouse are Enterprise features. Request the AI overview too, because the public trust page does not state Spotter prompt retention.
