What it is
WRITER is an AI platform for large companies. It started as a brand-consistent writing tool and now centres on WRITER Agent, a single interface that turns multi-step work into automated workflows. Teams save repeatable workflows as playbooks, schedule them as routines and connect them to company tools. A Knowledge Graph stores company documents so answers draw on your own data.
WRITER builds its own Palmyra models; WRITER Agent runs on Palmyra X6, which has a 1M-token context window, and Palmyra X4 and X5 are retired on 14 December 2026. Enterprise customers can also bring other models through AWS Bedrock or OpenRouter. AI Studio lets developers build custom agents, and an Agent Library offers 100+ prebuilt ones.
Starter covers up to 5 users with 5 playbooks, 3 routines and a 50GB Knowledge Graph. Enterprise is custom and adds unlimited playbooks, SAML SSO, SCIM and HIPAA support with a BAA.
Our review
WRITER's product is control. A bank, drug maker or retailer can give AI to thousands of staff with brand rules, compliance guardrails, audit trails and company knowledge built in. Its trust page lists SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, 27701 and 42001, says it does not train on customer inputs or outputs, and offers dedicated private-cloud deployment. Owning its Palmyra models lets it make those promises without passing data through another lab's terms.
The centre of gravity has moved from the editor to WRITER Agent, playbooks and routines. That suits operations teams automating reports and reviews. Someone who only wants help with a draft will find a lot of machinery between them and the text.
Prices are thin on the ground. WRITER publishes no per-seat price for Starter, only that it is a per-seat plan with fixed credit limits for up to 5 users, so nearly every real customer negotiates Enterprise. Developer pricing is public: Palmyra X6 costs $2 per million input tokens and $8 per million output, and Knowledge Graph hosting on the developer platform is $0.085 per GB per day, about $127 a month for a full 50GB graph.
The model line-up is moving fast. Palmyra Med, Fin and Creative were retired on 13 July 2026, and X4 and X5 follow on 14 December. Teams that built on X5 at $0.60 per million input tokens face more than three times that on X6. Bringing your own model is Enterprise only and adds a 10% pass-through fee on the provider's rates, which makes a mixed-model setup slightly dearer than going direct.
Where it earns its place
The marketing operations lead at a 5,000-person insurer
Let 300 marketers produce copy that passes brand and legal review
Enterprise sets brand and voice profiles per department and guardrails for regulated claims, with SSO and audit trails. Pricing is negotiated; the HIPAA BAA and SOC 2 report are available on Enterprise.
A developer on an internal-tools team at a bank
Move a document-summarisation service off Palmyra X5 before 14 December 2026
Switch the model ID to palmyra-x6 and re-test prompts; input rises from $0.60 to $2 per million tokens and output from $6 to $8. A service processing 100M input and 10M output tokens a month goes from $120 to $280.
A four-person communications team at a university
Automate a weekly news digest from internal sources
Starter's 3 routines and 3 connectors cover one scheduled digest, with the 20% education discount. Beyond 5 users or 3 connectors, the team has to negotiate Enterprise.
