What it is
claude-plugins-official is the marketplace behind /plugin install <name>@claude-plugins-official. Claude Code registers it the first time you start an interactive terminal session, unless a managed policy or the CLAUDE_CODE_DISABLE_OFFICIAL_MARKETPLACE_AUTOINSTALL variable blocks it, and auto-updates plugins from it by default. Its marketplace.json lists 315 plugins: about 54 live in the repo (40 Anthropic-maintained in plugins/ and 14 in external_plugins/), and the other 262 point at their authors' repositories, each pinned to a commit.
Most of the catalogue comes from tool vendors such as AWS, Stripe, Datadog, Sentry, Snowflake and Figma, whose plugins connect Claude Code to their services. Anthropic's own include commit-commands, code-review, feature-dev and 13 language-server plugins. Third parties apply through a submission form and must meet "quality and security standards". Anthropic runs a separate community marketplace, claude-community, which is not added by default.
Our review
This is the right default source of Claude Code plugins, for mechanical reasons rather than any review guarantee. It is registered automatically, it is the only general marketplace whose plugins show a context-cost estimate before install, and all 262 of its externally hosted entries are pinned to a specific commit in marketplace.json, so a vendor pushing to its main branch does not change what you install until the catalogue itself is updated. The repo has about 44,000 GitHub stars, no tagged releases and commits most days; the latest landed on 22 October 2026.
The context-cost figures matter more than they look. The details pane shows two token estimates, Every turn and When invoked, but only when you open a plugin by naming the marketplace or from the Marketplaces tab; the Discover list leaves them out. After install, claude plugin details <name> prints the always-on tokens the plugin adds to every session. With 315 entries on offer, a few careless vendor installs can quietly add cost to every message.
Listing is not an audit. The README warns that Anthropic "does not control what MCP servers, files, or other software are included in plugins" and cannot verify they won't change. Auto-update is on by default here and off for third-party marketplaces, so a catalogue bump can change a plugin's hooks or MCP servers at your next session start. Those hooks and servers run with your user's permissions, and the Will install section of the details pane is where shell-running hooks appear.
For organisations the useful control sits in managed settings, which can limit users to the official marketplace plus an internal one. The catalogue's breadth cuts both ways: community packs such as Superpowers and Matt Pocock's skills now install from here, which saves adding their own marketplaces, but most entries are vendor connectors that are only worth anything if you already pay for the vendor.
Where it earns its place
A platform engineer rolling Claude Code out to 60 developers
Control which plugins people can install
Use managed settings to allow claude-plugins-official plus an internal marketplace, so developers get vendor plugins such as Sentry or Datadog without adding arbitrary GitHub marketplaces. No licence cost; the work is reading the hooks in each approved plugin.
A backend developer on a team that already pays for Sentry and Linear
Connect Claude Code to those services without hand-writing MCP config
Install the vendors' plugins from here; each bundles its MCP server and skills. Check the Every turn estimate first, because several always-on plugins together raise the token cost of every message.
An engineering manager deciding which plugin sources the team may use
Keep the number of marketplaces small
Packs such as Superpowers and Matt Pocock's skills are listed here, pinned to a commit, so the team does not need to add those authors' own marketplaces. Fewer marketplaces means fewer sources that can change under you.
Before you commit
- Setup
- Nothing to install: Claude Code adds it on the first interactive terminal session. Setup scripts on a fresh machine must run claude plugin marketplace add anthropics/claude-plugins-official first; claude -p cannot open /plugin but loads installed plugins.
- Integrations
- 315 entries spanning cloud (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), observability (Datadog, Sentry, Grafana), data (Snowflake, Databricks, MongoDB), payments and SaaS tools, plus 13 Anthropic language-server plugins.
- Data and privacy
- The catalogue collects nothing itself; each plugin's hooks and MCP servers run locally with your permissions and may send data to the vendor's service. Anthropic says it cannot verify that plugins won't change.
- Cost at scale
- Free to use; the real cost is context. Each enabled plugin can add tokens to every turn, which claude plugin details reports, and vendor plugins usually need that vendor's paid plan.
- Limits
- Cost estimates appear only when a plugin is opened by marketplace name or from the Marketplaces tab; no single command updates every plugin; cloud sessions at claude.ai/code don't load locally installed plugins.

- Many entries need a paid vendor account
- Cost estimates hidden in the Discover list
Best for
Every Claude Code user, as the first place to look for plugins.
