What it is
Gong records sales calls, video meetings and emails, transcribes them, and uses AI to find what is happening in each deal: risks, competitor mentions, next steps and coaching moments. Managers use it to coach reps and forecast revenue; reps use it to prepare for meetings and draft follow-ups.
Since 2025 Gong has added AI agents, Gong Assistant, an Ask Anything feature and an MCP server for connecting outside AI tools. On 2 June 2026 it introduced Gong Credits: each paid core seat adds 2,000 credits a year to a company-wide pool, which pays for automated work such as question-based AI Trackers, deep research and API and MCP calls. Interactive features stay in the seat price.
Gong does not publish prices. Its pricing page says licences are priced per user, with a platform fee based on the number of users, and modules such as Forecast and Engage are sold on top of the core Foundation licence.
Our review
Gong's lead is depth of analysis, not recording. It turns thousands of calls and emails into searchable data on which talk tracks win, where deals stall and how often a competitor comes up, and it scores 4.8 on both Gartner and G2 according to its own pricing page. Cheaper note-takers capture the same calls; few of them give a sales director a defensible view of the pipeline.
The price is the gate. Gong publishes nothing, but Vendr data cited by Supered puts the median contract at $55,346 a year across 1,144 purchases, with a range from about $11,500 to $204,000, and seats commonly between $1,200 and $2,400 a year before the platform fee. A ten-rep team pays for a platform built for two hundred.
Credits change how the bill behaves rather than how big it is. The 2,000 credits per seat are pooled and reset each contract year; Supered reports a price of $0.015 per credit, which would make them worth about $30 a seat. When the pool runs dry, trackers pause and API and MCP calls return errors, with no overage bill. Teams that schedule briefs or run many custom trackers should ask for a written consumption estimate before signing.
On data, Gong is stronger than most buyers expect. It holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO 42001, 27701 and 27018 certifications, says customer data never trains generative models, and offers redaction, consent controls and bring-your-own-key encryption. Default retention is up to three years or the contract term, whichever is shorter, with deletion 30 days after termination, which is longer than a cautious legal team may want unless it sets a custom period.
Where it earns its place
A VP of Sales running 80 account executives on Salesforce
Find out why late-stage deals slip and fix forecast accuracy
Record every call, add Forecast on top of Foundation, and review deal-risk flags weekly. Expect a contract well above the $55,346 median at this size, plus credit planning for automated trackers.
A sales enablement manager at a 40-rep SaaS company
Coach new hires on discovery calls without sitting in on them
Build a library of winning calls and track talk ratios and topics per rep. Pre-trained trackers are in the seat price; custom question-based trackers draw on the 2,000-credit-per-seat pool.
A RevOps engineer at a mid-market company
Pipe call insights into an internal AI assistant
Connect through the Gong MCP server or the Ask Anything and Briefer APIs. Every API and MCP call draws credits, and requests error out once the pool is empty, so set per-feature caps.
