4.4/5

Worth the Business plan for teams whose knowledge already lives in Notion, though the new per-seat credit allowances turn a flat price into something closer to a meter.

What it is

Notion AI is the set of AI features inside Notion, the docs, wiki and database app. The main piece is Notion Agent, which can write and edit pages, fill in databases, translate, and carry out multi-step tasks using your workspace, connected apps and the web. Business plans also get AI Meeting Notes, which transcribes calls without a bot joining, and Enterprise Search (in beta), which searches Notion and connected tools together.

Notion no longer sells AI as a separate add-on. Full AI is included in the Business plan ($20 per member per month yearly, $24 monthly) and Enterprise. Free and Plus get only a limited trial.

From 19 October 2026 for new workspaces and 2 November for existing ones, each Business and Enterprise seat comes with 1,500 Standard credits a month (when Notion picks the model) and 500 Select credits (when you pick the model or run a Custom Agent). Beyond that, workspace-wide Notion credits cost $10 per 1,000 a month.

Our review

Notion AI's advantage is context, and the October 2026 pricing change is the thing to understand before renewing. Notion Agent reads and edits the pages, databases and connected apps your team already uses, which a general chatbot cannot see. Since 19 October, every Business and Enterprise seat carries 1,500 Standard credits and 500 Select credits a month. Standard covers work routed by Notion's Auto model picker; Select covers work where you choose the model and Custom Agents you build.

The allowances are generous on paper and awkward in practice. Notion says most users will not run out, and claims Auto matched Opus 5.5 in its tests at about 90% lower average cost. But Standard and Select credits cannot be pooled or moved between members. A Custom Agent draws first on its builder's Select credits, so an agent one person set up for the whole team, running 25-credit tasks every hour, uses around 18,000 credits a month against that person's 500. The rest comes from workspace Notion credits at $10 per 1,000, or about $175 a month, and only if an admin has switched that fallback on.

The data story is good for a productivity suite. Notion and its model providers do not train on customer data, Notion AI is inside the SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 scope, and providers keep prompts for 30 days or fewer on Free, Plus and Business. Zero data retention with most models, SCIM and audit logs are Enterprise-only, which matters for anyone in a regulated industry weighing Business against an enterprise contract.

Outside its own workspace it is ordinary. ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini are stronger for open-ended writing and research, and AI Meeting Notes is simpler than Granola or Otter. Meeting notes also start drawing on Standard credits in December, at about 10 credits for an hour-long call, which a heavy meeting culture will notice before the writing features ever do.

Where it earns its place

  • An operations lead at a 40-person startup that runs on Notion

Answer "where is the doc for X" questions without pinging people

Notion Agent searches the workspace and connected Slack and Google Drive within each person's permissions. Business at $20 a seat yearly is $9,600 a year for 40 people, with AI included.

  • A product manager running weekly planning in Notion databases

Turn meeting transcripts into updated tasks automatically

AI Meeting Notes captures the call without a bot; a Custom Agent files action items into the roadmap database. From December an hour-long meeting uses about 10 Standard credits, well within 1,500 a month.

  • A workspace admin at a 200-seat professional-services firm

Decide between Business and an Enterprise contract

Business gives SAML SSO and 90-day page history; Enterprise adds zero data retention with most AI models, SCIM, audit logs and DLP or SIEM connections. Enterprise pricing is not published.
