3.7/5

Pika's own model is no longer the reason to pay; the reason is one bill, one commercial licence and one API for most of the video models that matter.

What it is

Pika is made by Mellis, Inc. of Palo Alto, the company behind Pika Labs. It began as a text-to-video app on its own models and is still known for effects such as Pikaffects, which squash, melt or inflate objects, and Pikaswaps, which replace things in a scene. During 2026 it changed shape: the web app now runs third-party models, including ByteDance's Seedance 2.5, Kling 3.0, Google's Veo 3.1 Fast, Wan 3.0 and MiniMax H3, alongside Pika 2.5, plus image models (Nano Banana 2, GPT Image 2.5, Seedream) and audio models including ElevenLabs voices.

The same catalogue is sold to developers through the Pika API Club, launched on 4 August 2026, which claims 130 models behind one API. Pika also offers an MCP server at mcp.pika.art so ChatGPT, Claude and coding agents can call its apps directly, and a consumer iOS app.

Plans are credit-based and the cost of a clip depends on which model you pick: a 5-second 720p clip costs 122 credits on Seedance 2.5 but 34 on Kling 3.0. Commercial use and watermark-free output start on the $10 Starter plan.

Our review

Pika is now better understood as a reseller than as a model maker. Its pricing page leads with Seedance 2.5, Kling 3.0 and Veo 3.1 Fast, and Pika 2.5 sits in the menu as one option among many. That pivot answers the old complaint that Pika's footage trailed its rivals: on the Creator plan you can render the same prompt on Seedance and on Pika's model without changing tools or bills.

The credit maths deserve attention before you subscribe. A 5-second 720p Seedance 2.5 clip costs 122 credits, so the $35 Creator plan's 3,150 credits buy about 25 of them; the same allowance buys roughly 92 Kling 3.0 clips. Plan credits do not roll over. Top-up packs (60 credits per dollar) last 365 days but cannot be spent in the iOS app, the API or the old Pika site, which splits a team's budget into separate pots.

The API Club is the more interesting product for engineers. It charges a $10 monthly membership and per-second rates that include a 5% platform fee; Pika 2.5 costs $0.04 a second at 720p, and Pika publishes its own comparison against Fal.ai and Runway, which should be checked rather than taken on trust. Default limits are 60 requests a minute and 10 concurrent jobs.

The data terms are weaker than the product. Pika's terms let it train on anonymised or aggregated inputs and outputs unless you have a separate written agreement, and the privacy policy says personal information sent through the API will generally be used for training. No SOC 2 or ISO report is published. For a brand that cares about unreleased product footage, that matters more than whose model renders the clip.

Pikaffects, the effect that made Pika's name, is listed on the API as available only on Pika, at $0.05 a request. It is now a feature of an aggregator rather than the whole business, which puts Pika in direct price competition with Fal.ai, Replicate and Higgsfield rather than with Runway's own models.

Where it earns its place

  • A two-person social team at a direct-to-consumer brand

Turn product photos into short ads every week without juggling separate Kling, Veo and Seedance accounts

Two Creator team seats cost $70 a month ($56 yearly) for 6,300 credits, enough for about 50 Seedance 2.5 clips or about 185 Kling 3.0 clips at 720p. The commercial licence covers client and paid work; the risk is that drafts and product shots can be used, anonymised, for training.

  • A backend engineer at a photo-editing app

Add an 'animate this photo' button without signing contracts with several model vendors

The Pika API Club charges $10 a month plus usage; a 5-second Pika 2.5 clip at 720p is $0.20, so 10,000 a month is about $2,000. Default limits of 60 requests a minute and 10 concurrent jobs mean a launch spike needs an enterprise conversation.

  • A creator running a meme account on TikTok

Make surreal object effects from selfies and household items

Pikaffects are exclusive to Pika and cost $0.05 a request through the API; in the app, the $10 Starter plan removes the watermark that the free tier adds.

  • A developer using Claude Code or Codex

Have an agent generate and extend product videos as part of a content pipeline

Point the agent at the MCP server at mcp.pika.art and sign in; it draws on the same account credits, so set a plan cap before letting it run unattended.

Before you commit

Setup
Web sign-in with Google, Discord or email; the MCP server needs one URL and a sign-in, and the API needs a Club membership.
Integrations
REST API covering about 130 video, image and audio models; MCP server for ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Codex and others; iOS app.
Data and privacy
Terms allow training on anonymised or aggregated inputs and outputs unless an enterprise or written agreement says otherwise; API inputs containing personal data will generally be used for training. Retention periods and certifications are not published.
Cost at scale
Team seats are $35 (Creator) or $95 (Pro) per month with a two-seat minimum; at Seedance 2.5 rates a Creator seat yields about 25 clips. API video runs $0.04 to $0.09 a second on Pika 2.5 and more on third-party models, plus $10 a month.
Limits
API defaults to 60 requests a minute and 10 concurrent jobs; app plans cap parallel jobs (2 video jobs on Starter, 8 on Creator). Plan credits expire monthly and top-ups after 365 days.
