What it is
Kling AI is the video generation app from Kuaishou, the Chinese short-video company, operated internationally by Kling AI Pte. Ltd. in Singapore. It turns text, images and reference clips into video, with native sound, lip-synced speech, motion control, video extension and image tools in the same app.
Kling 4.0 was announced on September 28, 2026, when the lighter 4.0 Flash opened to a small group, and the full model reached all app users on October 15. According to Kling, 4.0 doubles native clip length from 15 to 30 seconds, places up to 10 keyframes on the timeline, accepts up to 15 reference assets and takes prompts up to 8,000 tokens. 10-bit HDR, two-minute extensions and general API access were still listed as coming soon; the 4.0 API is in early access with no published rate.
Plans are sold in monthly credits, with a discounted first month. Kling's own guide prices native 4K on Kling 3.0 at 30 credits a second. The free Basic plan does not allow commercial use.
Our review
Kling's reputation rests on motion. Creator comparisons on Reddit and YouTube keep praising how it handles bodies, action and camera moves, and Kling 4.0's 30-second clips with up to 10 keyframes give more control over a single shot than most rivals. Runway, Krea and Higgsfield all host Kling models, which says something about demand.
The price is lower than it first looks and higher than the banner says. Kling's own credit guide lists Pro at $25.99 for the first month, against a $37 list price, then $32.56 on renewal, for 3,000 credits; Ultra renews at $159.99 for 26,000. The same guide treats about 20 credits as one 720p video, but native 4K on Kling 3.0 costs 30 credits a second, so a 10-second 4K clip spends 300. Kling has not published a per-second 4.0 rate in the sources we read.
The launch ran ahead of the product. 4.0 was usable by everyone from October 15, yet 10-bit HDR, two-minute extensions and general API access were still marked coming soon a week later. Tech Times noted that Kling 3.0 Pro sat 12th on Artificial Analysis's video leaderboard, not near the top as some coverage claimed, and 4.0 has no independent benchmarks yet.
The data terms need reading by anyone uploading faces or client material. A VerifyWise summary of the April 2026 privacy policy says consumer uploads, including portrait photos and voice samples, fall under a licence to train Kling's models, with an opt-out only by emailing support. The paid API terms are stricter: no training on customer data and prompts logged for 30 days. Standard consumer terms also offer no IP indemnity, so an agency producing client work carries that risk itself.
Where it earns its place
A two-person social agency producing product reels
Make 30-second ads from product photos without a shoot
Kling 4.0 takes the product shots as references and holds them across a single 30-second clip. Pro renews at $32.56 for 3,000 credits; uploading a client's unreleased product triggers the training licence unless you email an opt-out.
An indie filmmaker storyboarding a short
Turn ten storyboard frames into a moving animatic
Place the frames as keyframes and Kling fills the motion between them. Producers quoted by Tech Times still report inconsistent hands and character scale between shots, so expect several attempts per scene.
A developer building a video feature into a consumer app
Generate clips through an API with clear data terms
Stay on the Kling 3.0 API for now: it is generally available and its terms rule out training and keep logs 30 days. The 4.0 API needs an early-access application and has no public rate card.
