Our rating

3.8/5

Softr gets the boring parts of a client portal right, permissions above all, and then charges by the head for everyone who logs in.

What it is

Softr builds business apps such as client portals, internal tools and simple CRMs on top of a database, either its own or an existing source such as Airtable, Google Sheets, HubSpot, Notion, Salesforce or SQL. You can start from a prompt with its AI co-builder, then adjust pages, permissions and workflows in a visual editor. Built-in AI agents can work on your data, drawing from a monthly pool of AI credits.

Pricing, reworked in 2026, charges separately for builders and for two kinds of app users: team users, who share a builder's business email domain, and client users, which includes anyone on Gmail or another free address. Billed yearly, Basic is $19 a month, Pro $99 and Business $329; month to month they cost $25, $119 and $395. The free plan allows up to 3 builders, 5 app users and 5,000 database records.

Our review

Softr is narrower than most app builders, and that is its strength. It is built for apps where people log in and work with business data: client portals, partner directories, internal dashboards and approval flows. Roles, record-level restrictions and data connections are core features, and builders can preview the app as any user before publishing, which is the check most AI app generators skip.

The cost model rewards reading the user definitions closely. Basic includes one builder and 5 team plus 5 client users; Pro two builders and 10 plus 50; Business three builders and 30 plus 100. Anyone signing in with a Gmail address counts as a client, extra builders cost $5, $10 or $20 a month by plan on yearly billing, and extra app users start at $1 a month on Pro and $2 on Business. Basic also keeps Softr branding and caps workflows at 2,500 actions a month, after which workflows pause until the limit resets.

AI is a helper, not the main way you build. Monthly AI credits run 5 on Free, 10 on Basic, 50 on Pro and 100 on Business. Included credits reset monthly; add-on credits roll over for one month. Unlike pure AI builders, the editor keeps working when credits run out.

The security page is more substantial than the category norm: SOC 2 Type II, hosting in Germany with a US option, encryption in transit and at rest, server-side database credentials, and audit logs. SAML and OpenID SSO and SCIM are Enterprise-only, though 2FA arrives on Business. Against Bubble, Softr trades flexibility for a permission model you do not have to build; against Base44 or Replit, it trades a code-generating agent for an app a non-developer can still maintain a year later.

Where it earns its place

  • An eight-person accounting firm with 200 clients

Give each client a login to see their documents and request status

Business at $329 a month yearly covers 100 client users and 30 team users; the other 100 clients are paid add-ons starting at $2 a month each, and clients on Gmail always count as clients. Record-level restrictions keep each client to their own rows.

  • An operations engineer at a 60-person logistics company

Put an internal approvals tool on top of an existing Postgres database

Connect the SQL source, define user groups and global data restrictions, and queries run server-side so credentials never reach the browser. 60 staff exceeds even Business's 30 team users, so budget for extra users from $2 a month each, and SSO through your identity provider needs Enterprise.

  • A product manager prototyping a partner directory

Get a working first version in an afternoon

The AI co-builder drafts the app from a prompt and the visual editor takes over from there. The Free plan's 5 AI credits and 5 app users cover a demo, not a launch.
