Our rating

4.2/5

Debugging a failed deployment from the editor is where it earns its place; with 248 tools and a purchase flow, scoping the OAuth grant is not optional.

What it is

Vercel MCP is Vercel's official remote server at https://mcp.vercel.com, using OAuth and Streamable HTTP. It began as a way for AI tools to search Vercel docs, manage projects and deployments, read logs and query Web Analytics. Vercel's tools reference now lists 217 catalog tools and 31 workflow or widget tools across 27 categories, from domains and DNS to sandboxes, feature flags and rolling releases.

Two July 2026 changes widened it: deploy_to_vercel deploys files to a new or existing project (23 July), and purchases arrived two days earlier, covering Pro upgrades, v0 and AI Gateway credits, the SIEM add-on and domain registration. Only clients Vercel has reviewed can connect; the list includes Claude Code, Claude.ai, ChatGPT, Codex CLI, Cursor, VS Code with Copilot, Windsurf, Devin and Gemini CLI. npx add-mcp https://mcp.vercel.com configures detected clients.

Our review

The useful core is small. list_deployments, get_deployment, get_runtime_logs and get_runtime_errors let an agent find a failing build, read why it failed and fix the code in the same session, and setup is a URL plus an OAuth sign-in. Most teams will not need much beyond that.

The rest is breadth with a cost. Vercel documents 248 tools, including 28 for domains and DNS, 23 for sandboxes and 17 each for deployments, projects and routing, with write access to environment variables, firewall rules and rolling releases. Vercel says some connections expose a smaller workflow tool list, and that the tools you see depend on server configuration, the client and team scope. Purchases ask you to confirm the price and need a team role with billing access, but the announcement mentions no spending cap of its own.

Vercel takes security seriously on paper. Each client connection needs explicit consent to block confused-deputy attacks, the docs state that the agent gets the same access as your Vercel account, and they give a concrete prompt-injection example in which a planted instruction tells the agent to copy deployment logs to an outside site. Human confirmation for changes is the recommended defence. web_fetch_vercel_url can read protected deployments, so whatever a deployment serves becomes model input.

The trade-off against Netlify's server is control. Vercel's is closed source and hosted only, so it cannot be audited or self-hosted, and a custom client will not connect until Vercel approves it. Netlify offers an open-source local option; Vercel offers more tools, and asks you to trust code you cannot read with an OAuth grant as wide as your account.

Where it earns its place

  • A Next.js developer on a four-person team on Vercel Pro

Find why the latest preview deployment returns 500 errors

The agent lists deployments, pulls grouped runtime errors and logs for the failing route and proposes a fix in the editor. No MCP fee; the team's four Pro seats cost $80 a month as before.

  • A founder prototyping in Claude.ai

Put a prototype on a shareable URL without opening a terminal

deploy_to_vercel sets up the project, detects the framework and returns a link while the build runs. Hobby is for non-commercial use only, so a paying product needs Pro, and buying a domain through MCP requires billing access and an explicit confirmation.

  • A platform lead at a 40-developer company on Vercel Enterprise

Let developers use agents on Vercel without widening anyone's access

Grant each OAuth connection only the teams it needs; existing Vercel roles still apply. Audit logs and project-level access control are Enterprise features, and SAML SSO is a $300-a-month add-on on Pro.

Before you commit

Setup
npx -y add-mcp https://mcp.vercel.com -g, or claude mcp add --transport http vercel https://mcp.vercel.com and then /mcp to sign in. Adding the server is not enough: the OAuth grant must include the team that owns the project.
Integrations
248 documented tools across 27 categories, including deployments, logs and observability, projects, environment variables, domains and DNS, firewall, feature flags, sandboxes, Vercel CI, agent runs, billing and Web Analytics. It cannot create AI Gateway keys or sign with KMS keys.
Data and privacy
Hosted by Vercel and governed by its AI Product Terms; operations stay inside your Vercel account, but the connected model sees logs and fetched deployment content, which are prompt-injection vectors. Source code is not public.
Cost at scale
No MCP fee; agent activity bills as normal usage. Pro includes $20 of credit per seat, then charges such as $0.15/GB of Fast Data Transfer beyond 1 TB and $0.007 to $0.105 per build minute for each agent deploy; new teams start with a $200 on-demand budget and can auto-pause at 100%.
Limits
Approved clients only; tool availability varies by client and team scope; MCP and CLI authenticate separately, so a CLI success does not prove the MCP grant has the same access. Rate limits are not published.

What's good

  • Deployment logs and runtime errors in the agent's session
  • Per-connection consent against confused-deputy attacks
  • Clear security guidance with a worked injection example
  • No extra cost on any plan

What's not

  • Closed source, no self-hosting
  • Only Vercel-approved clients can connect
  • Agent inherits your full account access, including purchases
  • 248 tools is a lot of context and surface

Best for

Vercel teams who want an agent to debug, inspect and manage their deployments.
