What is Google Vids?
Google Vids is a video editor in Google Workspace, built for the videos offices make: training clips, product walkthroughs, internal updates and recaps. You can start from a prompt with Help me create, or turn a Slides deck into a video with AI voice-overs, then edit the result on a timeline.
The AI parts have grown quickly through 2026. Since 2 April every personal Google account gets 10 Veo 3.1 video generations a month at no cost, plus a Chrome screen recorder and direct publishing to YouTube. Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers add AI avatars that keep the same face and voice across scenes, music from Lyria 3, and, since July, Gemini Omni editing by chat and personal avatars made from a selfie and a voice recording.
Workspace business plans from Business Starter include Vids with monthly allowances of avatars, seconds of AI video and generated music. Every AI-generated clip carries an invisible SynthID watermark.
How much does Google Vids cost?
| Plan | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Personal account | Free | 50 credits a month, 6 preset avatars, 60 seconds of AI clips |
| Google AI Pro | $19.99/month | 25 avatars, 500 seconds of AI clips, music |
| Workspace Business Starter | $7/user/month on yearly billing | 10 avatars, 200 seconds of AI clips a month |
Personal accounts free with 50 credits a month and 10 Veo 3.1 generations; Google AI Pro ($19.99/month) adds 25 avatars and 500 seconds of AI clips a month; included in Workspace plans from Business Starter ($7/user/month on yearly billing), with 10 to 25 avatars and 200 to 500 seconds of clips.
Is Google Vids worth it?
Most work videos never get made. Someone has to write the script, record a voice-over, find footage and sit in an editor, and the training update ends up as a 40-slide deck nobody reads.
Vids is built for exactly that video. Describe the video with Help me create, or point it at a Slides deck, and Gemini builds a first draft with AI voice-overs, then drops you into a simple timeline to fix what it got wrong. For teams already on Workspace it costs nothing extra, and the files sit in Drive with the same sharing rules as everything else.
The AI clips are now genuinely useful. Every personal Google account gets 10 Veo 3.1 generations a month free, Pro and Ultra subscribers can direct avatars that keep the same face and voice across scenes and hold products you upload, and Gemini Omni lets you change a background or fix lighting by typing a request. A personal avatar made from a selfie and a voice clip means a manager can send a weekly update without filming one.
The catch: the allowances are small and hard to compare. Business Starter gets 10 avatars and 200 seconds of AI video a month; Standard and Plus get 25 avatars and 500 seconds. Free personal accounts get 50 credits, where a Help me create draft costs 5 and each voice-over or image 1, plus six preset avatars and 60 seconds of clips. Many AI features work only in English, and Frontline and some Education plans get none of them.
It is also a work tool, not a creative suite. Google's feature list is about drafts, avatars, voice-overs and background removal rather than detailed editing, so a polished customer-facing video is still a job for CapCut or Descript. Every generated clip carries a SynthID watermark that marks it as AI-made.
Our take: if the alternative is a deck that nobody opens, Vids is a clear win at no extra cost on Workspace; if the alternative is a real editor, it is a draft tool.
Where it earns its place
An HR lead at a 400-person company on Workspace Business Standard
Turn the annual compliance deck into a short training video
Import the Slides deck, let Vids turn it into a video with an AI voice-over, and use some of the 25 avatars a month included in Business Standard to present key sections, at no extra cost per seat.
A product marketer at a SaaS startup
Make a two-minute feature walkthrough for the help centre
Record the screen with the free Vids Chrome extension, add a few Veo clips for the intro, and publish straight to YouTube, where exports default to Private for review.
A sales manager with a remote team across time zones
Send a weekly update video without recording one
On AI Pro or a Workspace business plan, create a personal avatar from a selfie and voice sample, then type the script each week. Personal avatars require users to be 18 or older and are limited to some regions.
