What it is
Seedance 2.5 is ByteDance Seed's audio-video generation model, released on consumer apps on July 31, 2026, with API access on BytePlus ModelArk from about August 7 under the ID dreamina-seedance-2-5-260628. It generates picture and sound together in one pass, up to 30 seconds per take, and a take can be extended twice for longer pieces.
One request can carry up to 30 images, 10 videos and 10 audio clips as references, with reference video and audio each capped at 30 seconds in total. The ModelArk API outputs only 480p or 720p and, according to BytePlus, is not available in the United States. Runway resells it at up to 1080p, and Dreamina's consumer app advertises 4K.
Our review
Seedance 2.5 is in the leading pack on quality, not at its head. On Artificial Analysis's text-to-video board its 1158 Elo ties MiniMax H3 for fourth and trails Wan 3.0's 1175, and the board's own margin of roughly 14 to 17 points means ranks two to eight overlap. The case for it is not raw quality but control: one request can carry 30 reference images plus 10 video and 10 audio clips.
That matters for ad work, where the same product, presenter and voice must survive across a dozen cuts. Prompts can target time ranges for edits, and a 30-second single take is double what Seedance 2.0 allowed. ByteDance itself concedes complex motion and crowded multi-subject scenes still need work, and its quality claims have not been independently tested beyond the arena votes.
Price is the obstacle. Artificial Analysis puts 1080p at $34.12 a minute, against $12 for Wan 3.0 and $4.80 for MiniMax H3, and LLM Stats calculates the per-token rate rose about 53% over 2.0. The first-party API also stops at 720p and is closed to US accounts, so American teams end up on Runway, which charges $0.68 a second for 1080p plus extra for every second of input video.
The reseller route has its own catch. Runway bills draft previews at the 480p rate and then charges the full 1080p rate again on upgrade, so an iterative workflow can pay twice for the clips it keeps.
Where it earns its place
A performance-marketing agency outside the US making product spots for a DTC skincare brand
Produce 15-second ad variants that keep the same bottle, presenter and voiceover across cuts
Upload product stills, a presenter reference and the brand voice clip as references, then generate and patch individual seconds with timestamp edits. 200 variants a month at 720p on ModelArk works out to about $690 at the published per-clip rate.
A US video team already paying for Runway
Use Seedance for 1080p hero shots without a BytePlus account
Call it through Runway's API at $0.68 a second for 1080p, so a 30-second take costs about $20 before input-video charges. Drafting at 480p first is cheaper, but upgrading the keeper bills it again at full rate.
A developer at a short-video app in Southeast Asia
Add an in-app 'remix this clip' feature that keeps the user's audio
Pass the user's clip as a video reference, which drops the token rate to $6.40 per 1M on ModelArk. Output is limited to 720p, which suits phone screens but not a TV export.
Before you commit
- Setup
- On ModelArk, enable the model in the BytePlus console; LLM Stats reports a Dreamina Seedance 2.5 resource pack may be required first. Requests take a duration of 4 to 30 seconds and default to 720p.
- Integrations
- BytePlus ModelArk and Volcano Engine Ark (as doubao-seedance-2.5 in China), the Dreamina, Jimeng and Doubao apps, and Runway's developer API.
- Data and privacy
- BytePlus's retention, training-use and certification terms for ModelArk video generation are not published on the pages we could reach; treat uploaded reference footage as leaving your control until you have them in writing.
- Cost at scale
- ModelArk works out to about $0.23 a second at 720p ($1.156 per 5-second clip), or roughly $14 a minute; Runway charges $0.30 a second at 720p and $0.68 at 1080p, plus $0.15 to $0.34 per second of input video, with an $0.80 minimum per generation.
- Limits
- API output is 480p or 720p only, no 1080p or 4K; not offered in the US; reference video and audio each capped at 30 seconds in total. ByteDance lists complex motion and multi-subject scenes as weak spots.
What's good
- Up to 30 images, 10 videos and 10 audio clips as references in one request
- 30-second single takes with timestamp-targeted edits
- 1158 Elo on Artificial Analysis's text-to-video board, within the margin of the top
What's not
- ModelArk API closed to US accounts and capped at 720p
- $34 a minute at 1080p, nearly three times Wan 3.0
- API data-retention and training terms not set out in the model docs
Best for
Ad and content teams who need the same characters, products and voices held steady across many shots.
