Grokipedia

SpaceXSI's AI-written encyclopedia: millions of articles by Grok, no human editors, and a record of errors and slanted sourcing.

What is Grokipedia?

Grokipedia is an online encyclopedia whose articles are written and fact-checked by Grok, the chatbot from SpaceXSI (formerly xAI). Nobody can edit an article directly. Signed-in readers suggest corrections or new articles through a pop-up form, and Grok decides whether to accept them; Grok also changes articles on its own.

It launched as version 0.1 on 27 October 2025 with more than 800,000 articles, many adapted from Wikipedia, and had passed 5.6 million by early 2026. Edits stopped in late April 2026 without an announcement. Version 0.3 arrived on 30 September 2026 with a new homepage of featured and most-read articles and a live feed of edits, and the site resumed processing suggestions.

Reading is free and needs no account. It is in English only. Most articles carry the X Community License; those adapted from Wikipedia stay under CC BY-SA 4.0.

Is Grokipedia worth it?

When you look something up, you want to trust the page enough to repeat it at dinner or put it in a report without checking every line.

Grokipedia does not earn that trust. Its articles are written by Grok, and when they differ from Wikipedia, outside reviewers keep finding the same problems. PolitiFact found unsourced claims and citations to articles that do not say what Grokipedia says they do. A study reported by NBC found it cites Stormfront, a neo-Nazi forum, dozens of times. A May 2026 study in PNAS by Mohammadi and Yasseri found many articles closely match Wikipedia, but where they differ, the news sources cited lean further right. Wikipedia's own editors have deprecated it as a source.

The correction process does not fix this, because it is the same machine marking its own work. You can suggest a change, but Grok accepts or rejects it, and by December 2025 Grok's own suggestions made up more than three-quarters of proposed changes, according to a Tow Center analysis. The homepage ticker now counts 1,255,395 approved edits, but there is no way to see who checked them.

The catch: the site's upkeep has been patchy. A rewrite on 14 March 2026 broke links to earlier user edits, and from late April the site stopped processing edits entirely, with no announcement. It came back with version 0.3 on 30 September 2026. Its Google traffic rose from 19 clicks in November 2025 to about 3.2 million a month by January 2026, then collapsed in February. It is English only.

There is a narrow use. Because so many articles began as copies of Wikipedia's, reading the two side by side shows exactly where Grok changed the story, which is useful if you study AI-written media or SpaceXSI's editorial choices.

Our take: for anything you plan to repeat or rely on, Wikipedia, with its citations and named human editors, is still the better first stop; Grokipedia is a document about Grok more than a reference about the world.

Where it earns its place

  • A media researcher at a university journalism school

Measure how an AI-written encyclopedia rewrites contested topics

Pull the same entries from Grokipedia and Wikipedia and compare the added and removed sources; the PNAS study by Mohammadi and Yasseri used this approach to show right-leaning sourcing where the two differ.

  • A fact-checker at a regional newspaper

Trace where a viral claim came from

Grokipedia pages are worth checking as a possible origin of a claim, since PolitiFact found invented citations there; the cited sources need to be opened and read, not taken on trust.
