3.9/5

Vibe is the cheapest serious assistant with real coding and work agents, but its European data story only holds if you change the default training setting and keep Work mode's connectors in mind.

What it is

Mistral Vibe is the assistant from Paris-based Mistral AI. It was called Le Chat until late May 2026, when Mistral renamed it and repositioned it as a work agent. Existing Le Chat accounts, chats and plans carried over.

Vibe combines regular chat, a Work mode that connects to Google Workspace, Outlook, Slack or GitHub to handle emails, reports or pull requests, and a Code mode with a CLI, IDE plugin and cloud coding sessions. Mistral recommends its Mistral Medium model for most tasks; the coding tools run on Devstral. Image generation, web search and more than 100 connectors are included.

It is the cheapest paid plan among the major Western assistants.

Our review

Vibe's case rests on price and jurisdiction. Pro at $14.99 a month is $5 under ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro, includes the Vibe Code CLI, VS Code extension and cloud coding sessions, and adds monthly Studio API credits. Mistral's help centre says data is hosted in the EU by default, with US hosting only if you call the US API endpoint, which is a cleaner position than most US rivals offer.

The defaults undercut that story a little. According to Mistral's help centre, inputs and outputs on standard Vibe plans are used to train its models by default until you opt out; only Enterprise is opted out automatically, and thumbs-up or thumbs-down feedback can be used on any plan. Zero data retention is not available for Vibe Chat or Work on any plan, so conversations stay until you delete them. Some features route data to sub-processors outside the EU, and only Enterprise can switch those off for the organisation.

The May 2026 rename from Le Chat brought a real change in scope. Work mode connects to Google Workspace, Outlook, SharePoint, Slack and GitHub, shows a plan and waits for approval before acting, and can repeat tasks on a schedule. Code mode runs agents in isolated sandboxes that keep going with the laptop shut, and /teleport moves a session between terminal and cloud. Accounts, chats and plans carried over unchanged.

Limits are the weak spot. Pro is described as up to 6x Free on messages and 5x on web searches, without Free's actual numbers, and Flash answers are capped at 150 a day on Pro and 200 on Team. Mistral Medium 3.5 is a capable default but, on the benchmark coverage we have read, still trails the top US frontier models on hard reasoning. For a European company weighing Microsoft Copilot or ChatGPT Enterprise, the deciding feature is more likely to be Vibe Enterprise's self-hosted and on-premises option than model quality.

Where it earns its place

  • A 20-person agency in Lyon that wants an EU-hosted assistant

Draft client reports from Gmail, Drive and Slack without a US vendor

Team at $24.99 a seat ($499.80 a month for 20, or €19.99 a seat billed annually) adds data export and domain verification. Turn off training in privacy settings for every account, and check which connectors use sub-processors outside the EU.

  • A Python developer on a personal budget

Get a terminal coding agent and chat for less than $20 a month

Pro at $14.99 covers the Vibe CLI, VS Code extension and cloud sessions on Devstral; usage past the plan is billed at API rates. Limits are multiples of Free rather than fixed numbers, so a heavy coding week can tip into API billing.

  • A CISO at a French insurer

Run an assistant entirely inside the company's own infrastructure

Enterprise offers self-hosted, private-cloud or on-premises deployment with SAML SSO, audit logs and training opted out by default. Pricing is by quote.
