Our rating

4.3/5

v0 writes the cleanest React front ends of any AI builder, and Vercel charges $70 a seat extra for the privilege of keeping your code out of training.

What it is

v0 is Vercel's AI app builder. You describe a page or an app and v0 writes React and Next.js code, runs it in a cloud sandbox, shows a live preview and deploys it to Vercel. It started as a UI generator and, after a February 2026 rebuild, can import existing GitHub repos, create a branch per chat and open pull requests.

The free plan allows 7 messages a day. Plus is $30 per user a month with $30 of monthly credits and $2 of daily credits on login; Business is $100 per user a month with the same credits plus training opt-out by default. Credits are spent per token at rates that depend on the model, from v0 Mini to v0 Max Fast. Since August 2026 the v0 API lets other products and AI agents build and preview apps without the web interface.

Our review

v0 is built around one stack, React and Next.js on Vercel, and the narrowness is the point: the output is ordinary code you can take into your own repository, and reviewers consistently rate its front-end quality above general-purpose builders. Design Mode adjusts spacing, colour and copy visually without spending a prompt.

The February 2026 rebuild turned it from a component generator into something a team can work in. According to Vercel's blog, v0 now imports an existing GitHub repo, opens one branch per chat and raises pull requests, so changes go through normal review. The v0 API, generally available since August, exposes the same agent to other products through a chats-and-messages interface, with authenticated preview URLs that keep credentials out of the browser. Its docs do not publish API rate limits or which plans can call it.

The data terms are the part buyers miss. The plan table lists training opt-out only on Business and Enterprise, and Vercel's March 2026 terms opted Hobby accounts, which most Free users have, into AI training by default; opting out later does not undo past training. v0 is covered by Vercel's SOC 2 Type 2 attestation, but SAML SSO and role-based access are Enterprise.

Cost is harder to predict than the seat price suggests. Each request is billed in tokens, chat history and source files count as input, and v0 Max costs 25 times v0 Mini per input token. Unused monthly credits roll over but expire after 65 days. A long agent run on a large imported repo on Max can burn through a seat's $30 in an afternoon, while the same seat on Mini lasts the month.

Where it earns its place

  • A front-end lead at a 12-person SaaS company on Next.js

Prototype new dashboard screens against the real codebase

Import the repo, prompt in a chat, and v0 opens a branch and pull request for review. On Business, 12 seats cost $1,200 a month and keep code out of training by default; on Plus, $360 a month but opted in.

  • A platform engineer building an internal tool generator

Let employees describe a small app and get a hosted preview

Call the v0 API from the internal portal and embed the authenticated preview iframe. Token rates run from $0.20 to $10 per million input tokens by model, so routing simple requests to v0 Mini is the main cost lever.

  • A product designer at an agency

Turn a Figma-style concept into a clickable site for a client pitch

Free gives 7 messages a day, enough for a rough pass; Plus at $30 a month covers a few pitches. Design Mode tweaks layout without extra prompts, and the result deploys to a Vercel URL.

Before you commit

Setup
Sign in with a Vercel account and get a live preview from the first prompt; repo import needs a GitHub connection.
Integrations
GitHub sync, one-click Vercel deploys, the v0 API with a React SDK and an MCP server for agents; databases and environment variables connect through Vercel.
Data and privacy
Training opt-out by default only on Business and Enterprise; Vercel Hobby accounts were opted into training in March 2026. SOC 2 Type 2 via Vercel; SAML SSO and RBAC on Enterprise.
Cost at scale
A 10-person team pays $300 a month on Plus or $1,000 on Business before extra credits; heavy v0 Max use draws from a shared credit pool bought on top.
Limits
Generation stops when credits run out; monthly credits expire after 65 days and bought credits after a year. Policy refusals return HTTP 422 and should not be retried unchanged.

What's good

  • Production-quality React and Next.js output in your own repo
  • Branch per chat and pull requests on imported GitHub repos
  • v0 API exposes the builder to other products and agents
  • Covered by Vercel’s SOC 2 Type 2 attestation

What's not

  • Training opt-out only on Business ($100/seat) and Enterprise
  • Strongly tied to React, Next.js and Vercel hosting
  • Token-based credits make monthly cost hard to forecast
  • API rate limits and plan access not published

Best for

Front-end developers and design-minded product teams building React or Next.js apps that deploy on Vercel.
