What is HY-World 2.0?
HY-World 2.0 is Tencent's open world model for building explorable 3D scenes. From text or a single image it generates a world in four stages: a panorama (HY-Pano 2.0, about 80B parameters), a planned camera path (WorldNav), expansion of the scene from new viewpoints (WorldStereo 2.0, about 17B), and composition into 3D Gaussian splats with WorldMirror 2.0 (about 1.2B). Given several photos or a video instead, WorldMirror 2.0 reconstructs the scene in one forward pass, predicting depth, normals, camera parameters, point clouds and splats.
The output is a 3D asset rather than a video: Gaussian splats, meshes and point clouds that Tencent says import into Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine and Isaac Sim. It supports first-person navigation and a third-person character mode with physics-based collision.
The technical report appeared on 15 April 2026; WorldMirror 2.0 weights followed on 16 April, HY-Pano 2.0 on 11 May and WorldStereo 2.0 with the full generation code on 18 May. Tencent added a hosted HY World 2.1 product in July.
Is HY-World 2.0 worth it?
HY-World 2.0 is the strongest open option if you want a generated place to persist. Video world models such as Genie 3 or Matrix-Game imagine each frame as you move, so what you see lasts only as long as the session. Tencent's pipeline does the expensive generation once and writes out a 3D scene. After that, walking round it costs what rendering any 3D scene costs, and the README says consumer GPUs render it in real time. You can drop the result into Unity or Unreal and build a game on top.
The benchmarks are Tencent's own but specific. WorldStereo 2.0 posts a rotation error of 0.492 and a translation error of 0.968 in camera control, ahead of SEVA, Gen3C and its predecessor on every listed measure except one image-quality score. For reconstruction, WorldMirror 2.0 reaches accuracy of 0.012 on 7-Scenes and 0.015 on NRGBD (lower is better). Adoption is real: 724 likes, 3,298 downloads in the last month and 14 Hugging Face Spaces, and 2.8k stars on GitHub.
The catch: generation is heavy and undocumented. The panorama stage alone is an 80B model, the camera-path rendering stage is described as multi-GPU, and neither the model card nor the README gives a VRAM figure or a time per world. The recommended stack is CUDA 12.8, Python 3.11 and FlashAttention-3 on Hopper GPUs, which points at data-centre cards. Reconstruction from your own photos is far lighter, at about 1.2B parameters.
The licence decides who can use it at all. The Tencent HY-World 2.0 Community License does not apply in the European Union, the United Kingdom or South Korea, and using the model or its outputs there is unlicensed. A company whose products had more than 1 million monthly active users on the release date needs a separate licence, and outputs may not be used to improve any other AI model.
Our take: a generated world is only worth as much as what you can do with it afterwards, and this is the one you can save, edit and ship as a level. For a quick look before renting GPUs, Tencent's hosted HY World product runs the newer 2.1.
Where it earns its place
A three-person indie studio prototyping an exploration game
Block out a dozen distinct environments without a full-time environment artist
Generate each world from a reference image, export the splats or mesh, and import into Unity as a starting level; collision and a third-person character mode come with the pipeline. Generation needs rented data-centre GPUs, but each world is generated once.
A robotics engineer building simulation scenes
Turn a walk-through video of a real warehouse into a scene for Isaac Sim
WorldMirror 2.0 reconstructs depth, normals, cameras and Gaussian splats from the video in one forward pass at 50K to 500K pixels per frame, and runs on one GPU or several with FSDP.
A legal lead at a European games publisher
Decide whether the team may evaluate it
The licence does not apply in the EU or the UK, and use there is unlicensed; the hosted product or a model under a standard open licence such as Apache-2.0 is the route to look at instead.
Before you commit
- Setup
- Clone Tencent-Hunyuan/HY-World-2.0 with CUDA 12.8 and Python 3.11+, download weights from Hugging Face or ModelScope, then run the five generation scripts in order (trajectory generation and rendering, video generation, splat data, splat training). A Gradio demo covers WorldMirror reconstruction.
- Integrations
- Exports Gaussian splats, meshes and point clouds for Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine and Isaac Sim; hosted product at 3d.hunyuan.tencent.com.
- Data and privacy
- Self-hosted, so prompts and photos stay on your hardware. Tencent HY-World 2.0 Community License: not valid in the EU, UK or South Korea; separate licence above 1 million monthly active users; no using outputs to improve other models.
- Cost at scale
- Not published. The generation pipeline includes an 80B and a 17B model and multi-GPU rendering, so budget for data-centre GPUs per world; viewing finished worlds costs ordinary 3D rendering.
- Limits
- No VRAM or generation-time figures; FlashAttention-3 recommended only on Hopper GPUs; multi-GPU reconstruction needs at least as many input images as GPUs.
What’s good
- Outputs persistent 3D (splats, meshes, point clouds), not a video stream
- Imports into Blender, Unity, Unreal Engine and Isaac Sim
- Also reconstructs real scenes from photos or video with a 1.2B model
- Full weights and generation code released
What’s not
- Licence excludes the EU, UK and South Korea
- 80B panorama stage; no published VRAM or time per world
- Outputs may not be used to improve other AI models
- Benchmarks are self-reported
Best for
Game and simulation teams outside Europe, Britain and South Korea who want generated or reconstructed scenes as editable 3D assets.
